How does your link look when someone shares it?

The og:image meta tag names the image a platform shows when your link is shared. Without it, most platforms render a bare text link, which gets dramatically fewer clicks than a full preview card.

1200 by 630 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio) is the safe standard. X, Facebook and LinkedIn all crop toward that shape, so anything else risks losing the edges of your image.

X reads its own twitter:* tags first and falls back to Open Graph, and the twitter:card tag decides between a small square card and the full-width one. Facebook and most other platforms read only the og:* tags.

Platforms cache link previews aggressively, sometimes for weeks. Use the Facebook Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn Post Inspector to force a re-scrape; on X, the cache usually refreshes within a few days on its own.
