01 / How it works

Step 1

Test your questions

Ask 10 to 30 real buyer questions in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, each in a fresh conversation, and count the answers that cite you.

Step 2

Step 3

Track the trend

Keep the question list fixed and re-run monthly. The direction of the number matters more than any single reading.

02 / FAQ

Questions, answered.

What is an AI citation rate?+

The share of tested buyer questions where an AI assistant mentions or cites your business in its answer. If you ask ChatGPT 20 questions a buyer would ask and your brand appears in 6 answers, your citation rate in ChatGPT is 30% for that question set.

How do I run the test properly?+

Write 10 to 30 questions a real buyer would ask, from generic ('best X for Y') to specific ('X vs Z'). Ask each question in a fresh conversation so earlier answers do not leak context. Count an answer as a citation when it names or links your business. Keep the exact question list and reuse it every month.

What counts as being 'cited'?+

Decide before you test and stay consistent. The strict version counts only a named mention or link of your business. Count recommendations of your product, mentions of your brand, or links to your site; do not count answers that merely describe your category.

What is a good citation rate?+

There is no honest universal benchmark, which is why this tool does not invent one. What matters is the trend on a fixed question set: measure, publish content that answers the questions you lost, and measure again next month. Rising is good; falling means competitors are taking your answers.

Why measure per engine instead of one overall number?+

Because the engines behave differently: ChatGPT leans on its search index and training data, Perplexity on live retrieval, Gemini on Google's index. It is normal to be strong in one and invisible in another, and the fix differs per engine. The overall number is your headline; the per-engine split tells you where to work.

How is this different from the AI Share-of-Voice Calculator?+

This tool tracks the measurement itself, engine by engine, with a reading for each rate. The Share-of-Voice Calculator takes one aggregate citation count and frames it against your deal economics to estimate what the gap is worth. Measure here, then value the gap there.

Is anything I enter stored?+

No. The math runs entirely in your browser; nothing is uploaded, logged or saved.
