Count every word, on demand.
Words, characters, sentences, paragraphs and the terms you actually use most, computed in your browser when you press the button. Your text never leaves the page. Free, no sign-up.
Press Count words to get counts, and your text never leaves the browser. Word counts use unicode word boundaries, so contractions and hyphenated words count once; keyword density is the term's share of all words.

Questions, answered.
How does this tool count words?+
Using unicode word boundaries: a word is an unbroken run of letters, numbers, apostrophes or hyphens. So 'don't' is one word, 'state-of-the-art' is one word, and numbers count. Different tools draw these lines slightly differently, which is why counts vary a little between them.
What counts as a sentence or a paragraph?+
A sentence ends at a run of . ! or ? followed by a space or the end of the text; a paragraph is any block of text separated by a blank line. Headlines without punctuation merge into the following sentence count, so treat the sentence number as a good approximation, not gospel.
What is keyword density, and does it matter for AI visibility?+
The share of all words that a given term (or two-word phrase) represents. It matters less as a target and more as a mirror: if your intended topic is nowhere in the top terms, the text is probably about something else than you think. Do not stuff keywords for AI engines; they quote passages that answer questions, not passages that repeat words.
Is there an ideal word count for content that gets cited by AI?+
No honest fixed number exists. AI answer engines lift the passage that answers the question, whether the page is 400 or 4,000 words. What correlates with getting cited is structure: answer-first openings, self-contained passages and question-shaped headings. Length is a side effect of covering the question properly.
Why do the words-per-sentence numbers matter?+
Long sentences are harder to quote. AI engines favor passages that stand alone, and a 40-word sentence rarely does. If your average creeps past 25, look for sentences doing two jobs at once.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?+
No. Counting happens in your browser when you press Count words; nothing is sent to a server, logged or stored.
