What does 'answer-first' mean?+
It means the direct answer to the reader's question sits in the first sentence, before any setup, context or scene-setting. Everything that explains or supports the answer comes after it, not before.
Why do AI engines reward this structure?+
AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini are lifting an answer to quote, not reading your page top to bottom. They tend to pull whichever sentence states the answer most directly. An intro that warms up for three sentences before getting there gives the engine nothing to grab in sentence one.
What does throat-clearing actually look like?+
Rhetorical questions ('Have you ever wondered...'), 'in today's world' or 'in the fast-paced landscape of' openers, and sentences that just restate the topic instead of answering it. All three delay the answer without adding information.
Will this flatten my voice?+
Some. The rewrite keeps your voice and phrasing everywhere it does not conflict with getting to the point fast. Directness sometimes means cutting a flourish that was doing no real work; you can always keep the parts you like and discard the rest.
Does it invent facts or numbers?+
It is instructed to preserve every factual claim in your original intro and add nothing new. Instructions are not a guarantee: read the rewrite against your original before publishing, or run it through the citability checker as a second pass.
Should every page open answer-first?+
Pages built to answer a specific question, yes: guides, FAQs, comparisons, how-tos. Narrative pieces, opinion essays or brand storytelling can earn a slower open on purpose. Use judgment; this tool is built for the first kind of page.
